How to Kill Demons from Another Dimension, by Jonathan L. Lawrence, 28th January 2012

Word count: 546

The story:
When it happens, it always happens fast. If you want to survive, it doesn’t come down to chance, it’s preparedness, if you’re not prepared, you die.

Trust me, I’ve been doing this a lot longer than everyone else.

I got sucked into their dimension years ago, I only got back when they’d already invaded. It’s easier to survive here than it is there. There, they have nearly nothing we would call food. Here there are still homes and shops with food in them.

If you’re hearing me, you must have survived too, you already know this. What you probably don’t know is, I can kill them.

First thing you need to know is, it’s no good once they’re hunting you, when they hunt they are extremely alert,, and even the best weapons won’t harm them. I found this out in their world, I was being hunted and I decided to fight back. I had a rudimentary blade, and as it struck I tried to stab it.

It didn’t notice, I would be dead. It pinned me, and started sucking my soul out, an intensely painful and humbling a sensation. I was fortunate, food is scarce in their world, three of them got in a fight over me. I snuck away and watched them kill each other.

I didn’t learn anything that time, when they kill each other, they tend to over power their opponent and suck out the soul. The chances of even the strongest human over powering one of these foul beasts seems remote, and we can’t suck out souls.

No my time on the other side taught me one thing alone that I could use to kill them. When they have fed, when they are sated, they sleep. It’s the only time I’ve seen them sleep at all. Here’s the key though, when they sleep their bodies are no longer impervious to even the most basic of weapons.

If you come across one asleep, don’t hesitate kill it. The fastest death, and therefore the lowest risk I have found is to stab them in the fleshy bit just above the pelvis. I think whatever passes for a heart in these creatures resides there. Anywhere else carries the risk of then waking up and fighting back as it’s dying. Even through the head, their brains appear not to be there.

A bullet might work to, or a grenade, I don’t have access to any, and they’re noisy.

Be quick, be quiet, there may be others in the area not sleeping.

Also, be aware they only sleep for about two hours, you don’t want to approach just as one is waking up.

There are millions of these creatures, I won’t pretend we can kill them all, but we can make their meals so expensive to not bother with. Or at least we can show them we can beat them without resorting to nuking a city like London, Paris, or New York as some nations choose to do.

I don’t know when I will be back to this radio station, I will try and have this repeat, and I will try to update with new information as long as I can keep it powered. Keep sharing these messages.

My name’s Tess Mackintosh saying “Stay alive out there”.

Aye, there's the rub. Difficult to sum up succinctly. Crazy, most definitely. Funny, hopefully. Lovely, certainly. Interesting, essentially.
